A very interesting hybrid issue
Lot 464
Philip II, 247-249. Antoninianus (Silver, 22 mm, 3.90 g, 6 h), Antiochia, 247. IMP M IVL PHILIPPVS AVG Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Philip II to right, seen from behind. Rev. P M TR P III COS P P Felicitas standing front, head to left, holding long caduceus in her right hand and cornucopiae in her left. CNG Auction 90 (2012), 1671 corr. (same dies, but obverse legend misdescribed). Cohen -. RIC -. Of the highest rarity, apparently the second known example of this interesting hybrid issue. Virtually as struck.

This very interesting issue combines an obverse of Philip II as Augustus with a reverse dated TR P III = 246. However, Philip only became Augustus in July-August 247, when he was already TR P IIII since January 1, meaning that the mint erroneously used a reverse die on this coin which was already more than half a year old. For a coin struck from the same obverse die but with a correct dating to TR P IIII, see Artemide 45E, 15 December 2018, 399
